Stories of Resiliency: A Parent’s Love

Through our partnership with Charity Launch come stories of resiliency in Northern Tanzania. The second installment of this four-video series is “A Parent’s Love”:

The majority of cancer cases go untreated in Tanzania due to a scarcity of resources; Northern Tanzania currently lacks even a single facility equipped to treat patients with cancer, who must travel to the country’s single cancer treatment hospital in the south. The dearth of treatment centers plays a huge role in the spiking cancer mortality rates across all of Africa, particularly for children; for instance, 80% of childhood cancers are cured in the developed world, whereas only 5% of African children with cancer are cured.

In Tanzania, addressing this problem starts with building facilities to diagnose and treat cancers that currently go undetected and un-tackled. We’re starting by partnering with the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi to construct the first cancer care facility in the region.
