Opened In 2016
In December 2016, the KCMC Helmut & Rotraut Diefenthal Cancer Care Clinic and the KCMC Mark & Linda Jacobson Infusion Centre opened to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the 15+ million people of Northern Tanzania.
Every year, the Cancer Care Centre
With the investment in Cancer Care Clinic And Outpatient Infusion Centre, essential services are now available to patients who previously had no access to this type of screening and care.
The Foundation for Cancer Care in Tanzania’s (FCCT’s) vision of a comprehensive and sustainable cancer care system that serves cancer patients across the northern healthcare zone of Tanzania is based on a “hub and spoke” community model, proven to be a successful healthcare model in low-resource countries. This model envisions local dispensaries and local and regional healthcare centers connected to the Cancer Care Centre to ensure that cancer care is accessible across the four-region northern healthcare zone.
The first phases of FCCT’s work have focused especially on building treatment capacity at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), the “hub” in this model.
Completion of the inpatient ward is a major milestone in the development of the Cancer Care Center at KCMC. Construction was opened in 2020 and the first patient was admitted in December 2020.
Building and equipping a Radiation Treatment Centre will complete the construction of a comprehensive cancer care centre.
With this radiation centre, the physical infrastructure for a comprehensive centre is complete.
FCCT and its partners will save lives, ease suffering and transform cancer outcomes for the people in Northern Tanzania!
